An educator with 16+ years of learning, with beginnings in first grade classrooms full of laughter, sounding out words and adding numbers on fingers to “graduating” to upper Primary students and helping them plan and write a 500-word text to trying to win over a bunch of Middle Schoolers and make them love math and not give up; it is clear to see that I was on the search for something.
Throughout this eye-opening and challenging journey, the most profound part has been discovering my passion for helping young people thrive and develop their “best self”. Today, I am blessed to be a well-being coordinator supporting preteens and youth in building their inner world: their mindset, their character, their self-efficacy and those crucial people skills we all need.
I feel that my work is incredibly personal to me. As a “younger” mom to two young men (both done with school), I have been through my own unique journey of raising them (and being raised by them too). Being two very different characters with their own ups and downs has been my greatest teacher. It’s given me a deep, first-hand appreciation for the challenges and incredible moments of guiding a young person. I guess this is why I’m fascinated by psychology and behavioral science!
If you are a parent or teacher, I’m sure you’ll agree that this generation is navigating a world completely different from the one we grew up in. They’re facing challenges that demand a new kind of inner strength: resilience, integrity, and self-discipline. The good news is: we are more aware of the role we have in supporting them to develop these skills and values, so they can walk into their future with confidence and the right mindset. As the African proverb goes, it takes a village to raise a child.
